Why I Constantly Doubt Myself (Even With Faith)

Nobody really talks about this part of the journey.

The part where you believe in God, trust His plan, pray, surrender…and yet still battle this deep, stubborn doubt inside yourself.

Yeah…

That uncomfortable feeling that sneaks in, even when everything around you is fine. That sinking “maybe I’m not good enough” voice. That quiet, almost invisible tug that makes you second-guess the dreams you were just excited about yesterday.
And if you’re like me, you probably wonder: “If I have faith, why do I still struggle so much with believing in myself?”

Here’s what I am still learning:

First, having faith doesn’t erase our humanity. It strengthens our spirit, yes. But it doesn’t cancel out the old habits, mindsets, and wounds we spent years gathering before we knew God the way we do now.
Doubt, fear, and insecurity are like stubborn roots we didn’t even know were planted.
And healing them?
It takes time, truth, and trust, layered over and over and over again.

Faith Grows in the Middle of Doubt, Not in the Absence of It

I used to think strong faith meant never feeling anxious.
Never feeling unsure.
Never feeling small.

But the more I walk with God, the more I realize:
“Faith grows in the messy middle.”

It grows when we feel weak and choose to trust Him anyway.
It grows when we feel unqualified but step forward anyway.
It grows when the enemy whispers," Who do you think you are?”
And we whisper back, “I am His.”

Maybe that’s why doubt feels so loud sometimes.
Because the enemy knows what’s at stake if we keep going.

Doubt Isn’t a Sign You’re Broken

It’s actually a sign you’re trying to walk differently than you used to. It’s a sign you’re reaching for something higher, even when you can’t fully see it yet.

And let’s be honest,
Stepping into the unknown is scary.”
Even when God is holding our hand. Even when we’ve seen His faithfulness 100 times before.

We’re human.
We forget.
We feel.

And that doesn’t make us bad people.
It makes us real ones.

So What Do I Do When Doubt Creeps In?

  • I Pause. I name it. (“Wow, I’m doubting myself again.”)

  • I Pray. Not fancy prayers, just honest ones.

  • I Reflect. I remember the times God carried me through when I felt the exact same way before.

  • I Move Anyway. Even if it’s a tiny step. Even if it’s shaky.

Faith isn’t proven when we feel strong; it’s proven when we move, even when we don’t.

If you’re battling doubt today, you’re not alone. You’re growing.
Faith isn’t about having it all together; it’s about letting God hold it all when you don’t.

And guess what?
He’s still proud of you.
Even in your shaky steps.
Especially in your shaky steps.

We’re all in this together.
